I had no idea what I was signing up for when I chose to watch this movie.
I figured, Meryl, Julia- It’s probably an amazing film. Which it is, but it’s heavy.
The movie is centered around the Weston sisters who return to their mother’s home, an environment of dysfunction and heartbreaking exchanges, when their father commits suicide.
Each character is living through an emotionally-charged obstacle or burden. What’s incredible is that the movie isn’t graphic, but the dialogue conveys so much pain, betrayal, and sadness.
Meryl Streep was outstanding. I never saw Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, but Meryl had to be a close second for Best Actress at last year’s Academy Awards.
Definitely see it if you want to have a good cry or go brood.
